The new Infinity backup service is a Microsoft Windows service that automatically writes a copy of the Infinity system database to a storage location. The backup file is intended for use in recovering the Infinity system in the event of a service outage or other need. The Infinity backup service eliminates the need for the DAT cassette tape drive in the Infinity server as well as the need to keep track of those tapes.
A Windows service is an executable file designed to run indefinitely and perform specific functions automatically. Windows services can be configured to start when the Infinity is booted and run in the background as long as Windows is running, or they can be started and stopped manually as needed.
The Infinity backup service can write the back-up file to any location on the local area network (LAN) on which the computer housing the service resides and to which you can construct a file path. The backup routine can be triggered to run manually as needed, or it can be scheduled to run at a specific date and time.
