Advertising Specifications

All artwork for ads should be submitted as outlined below and sent to Dave Margolis at dave@connectionsmagazine.com.

Digital Ads:

  • Connections Magazine is pleased to accept your ads electronically on the following media: 3-1/2" floppy, 100 Megabyte Zip, 1 Gigabyte Jaz, or CD ROM.

  • Files under four megabytes can be emailed (film output charge for color separations).  Connections uses Macintosh platform and Quark Express 4.1 or earlier.

  • Ads not created within Quark Express must be saved in the following formats: EPS or TIFF

  • JPEG files, Microsoft Word, and PageMaker documents are NOT acceptable.

  • Include all graphics and postscript fonts used (True type fonts are not acceptable), and a proof is required for matching output.

  • A color proof should be provided with color ads; note that color variants do occur during production.

  • Color and grayscale photo images/halftones should be saved at 300 dots per inch (DPI) - TIFF format is preferred - and line work (i.e. black and white only with no shades of gray) should be saved at 800 to 1200 DPI - EPS format is preferred.

  • Important: Electronic ads must also be submitted five (5) business days prior to materials deadline due to margin of error.

Film

  • We prefer that ads be sent digitally.  If this is not possible, film may submitted at an additional cost.

  • In that case, process-color separations are required for all color ads.

  • Due to press limitations, Connections does not offer spot colors.

  • Two color ads must also be broken down into CMYK separations.

  • Advertisers will be invoiced for production charges accrued to accommodate this requirement.

  • Negatives must be 120-line screen, right reading, and emulsion side down.

  • Color density should not exceed 260% for four colors and registration/crop marks are required on four sides.

Camera Ready Art [CRA]

  • We prefer that ads be sent digitally.  If this is not possible CRA may submitted at an additional cost.

  • If so, it is accepted for black and white ads only.

  • Artwork must be provided in 120-line screen and should allow for a 15-20% dot gain.  CRA is preferred on Velox/slick; quality reproduction cannot be guaranteed from output of office printers.
